Our Heritage
Calcite (Pvt) Ltd. is the rebranded entrepreneurial continuation of Pakistan Minerals Processing Industries (PMPI), which was established in 1987 via 1967’s Gujrat Minerals Processing Industries. Our first products were talc and whiting, which were supplied to Packages, Adamjee Paper & Board Mills, Johnson & Johnson, Koh-E-Noor, etc. The quality and brightness of our products, for which we used the highest-grade talc from the Hazara Mines, was so exceptional that we frequently received bonuses from Adamjee Industries.
Over time, our clientele expanded to the paint industry in Pakistan with brands including Berger Paints, Myco Paints, Brighto Paints, Champion Paints and ICI.
We continued to diversify our portfolio of high-quality processed natural minerals adding products such as barium sulphate (barites) to our roster. In 1987, we realized the value and versatility of ground calcium carbonate powder in Pakistan and added it to our list of products.
Ground calcium carbonate powder has a wide variety of uses in the agricultural, industrial, pharmaceutical and environmental industries. Despite the dearth of resources at the time, the limitless dedication and perseverance of our founder, Kaleem Faruki, led to the development of calcium carbonate slurry that outshone and substituted the most commonly used imported equivalents. We, as PMPI, began supplying these products to companies such as Excel, Arsam and Century Paper Mills.
In 2016, manufacturing was transferred to the newly established Calcite (Pvt) Ltd., a restructured venture. While PMPI focused on the import and export of industrial chemicals, Calcite (Pvt) Ltd. has inherited our considerable knowledge and industry-matured staff, giving it an obvious edge over its competitors.
Heavily focused towards R&D, in 2019 Calcite launched a range of hybrid products which include homogenised mixtures of ground calcium carbonate, magnesium silicate, barium sulphate, titanium dioxide and many others. We are now offering the highest quality customisable mineral solutions in both dry and slurry state to all our clients. Our roster of products is also continually expanding, as we are currently in the process of introducing red oxide and food-grade talc/CaCO3 to our range of products
